Mission Statement

To provide a collection of materials that extend and enhance the curriculum and meet the recreational reading needs of the students of Navelencia Middle School, and to ensure that the students and staff are effective users of information.

Borrowing Library Materials

The Navelencia Library has more than 7,400 books and magazines, movies and audio books from which to choose.  Library materials are checked out for two week periods, and a student and parent may have up to four items checked out at a time.  No late fees are charged, but if a book or other library item is lost or damaged, the student must pay for the book or item so that we can replace the lost item.  If the fine for the lost book is paid, then the book is found, we will refund the fine paid.  If fines are not paid, then students will lose privileges.

Parents or guardians of Navelencia students are certainly welcome to check out library materials also.  Their items will be checked out in their Navelencia student's name but will not count in the student's four total checkouts.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a great reading incentive program for our students led by Mrs. Soria. First, students form teams of 4 to 6 participants. Students read books from a list of awarding winning titles.  During competitions each team competes to test their knowledge of the books they have read.  Like a game show, judges award points for correct answers.  At the end of the competition, the team with the most points wins.  This is a nationwide competition with winning teams advancing after each round. Good luck to all of our teams!
